This feature article was snagged from Insurance and Permits Outside the United
States In non-UIAGM countries it is hard to generalize about the
situation regarding permits. Sometimes they are required and
sometimes not, and many times when required this is not
enforced. In any case, you may want to ask your guide about
permit requirements, if you are interested or concerned. As a
consumer the most likely impact it might have on you is the
possibility that lack of the proper permit may invalidate your
outfitter's liability insurance, though, again, the
possibility of your trip being interrupted may also exist. Bottom line for the consumer regarding permits overseas:
In UIAGM-member countries aside from the U.S., one of the
requirements of a guide's certification is typically that they
hold liability insurance for their clients. The amount of
coverage required varies from one country to another, and is
usually about the same as or higher than that required by U.S.
land management agencies. In general you can be assured that
they are covered if they are certified. In non-UIAGM countries aside from the U.S. you may want to
ask about insurance requirements and whether or not your
outfitter has any insurance. Bottom line for the consumer regarding insurance
overseas: |
