This feature article was snagged from Guides’ Training and Qualifications in the
United States Traditionally in the U.S. there has
been no national or standardized mechanism for training or
qualifying guides, although the American Mountain Guides
Association now provides certification and membership in the
international certifying organization for guides, the UIAGM,
described below. Entry level guides generally seek employment
based on their resumes or skill. Most guide services then
provide some training in guiding skills or local practices.
Guides typically continue their training by guiding, often
under the supervision of more experienced guides. Sometimes
more formal training or learning opportunities are either
required or provided periodically by their employer guide
service, or other outside entities. |
